About the Club

Welcome! Pull up a chair and read to your heart’s content.

We, the Montreal Book Buddies, started as a reading group in 1997 for book lovers to get together to discuss new and favorite books and to host students, teachers and authors of literature at our meetings and retreats.  We meet twice a month: once for short works and once for fiction and non-fiction books, and have annual retreats where we tackle more ambitious works, which have included Shakespeare, Dickens and more. These weekend gatherings are usually guided by our fave literature instructor, who elevates the discussion with his guidance and, often, performance from the work in question.  There is never a worry about sustenance as we all prepare our favorite recipes and thoroughly enjoy fabulous dining.

Now let’s set the table with what we have coming up.

  • To find out what books and readings we will be reviewing and what we’ve already read this year, click here or look to the right in our “Upcoming events” section. Our “Current novel” is at the top right corner of the page.
  • To check out our reading list for 2011 (and the past few years), click here or look to the right under “Categories” and “Book List Archive”. Please note, however, that our reading list is often mere fiction by the end of the year, owing to passionate arguments from our members for including new discoveries throughout the year.
  • In addition to our regular meetings and annual retreats, many of us love to attend the series of Books & Breakfast events held every spring and fall at a downtown Montreal hotel.
  • Blue Metropolis has also featured high on the list of literary events for the festival, which runs every spring.

So what do you think? Click here to email us a comment or leave a comment on any of our blog posts in the “Upcoming events” section.
